Lost dog in Chandler, AZ … Help find before Thanksgiving

CHANDLER, AZ: 4 year old tan & white shepard/lab mix. I have attached a photo. We live in Southern California but are in Chandler visiting my mom for Thanksgiving and Buster somehow managed to squeeze out of the gate in the back yard and has been missing since late Saturday night (11/20). His collar and tags were caught in the gate when he got out so he is loose with no ID. We miss him terribly and are doing everything we can to try to find him. He probably ran off after a cat or a bird and cannot find his way back to us. If you happen to see him I would certainly appreciate a call at 757-619-2445. We have to leave the area to go back home late Saturday afternoon at the very latest and it will kill us to have to go home without our boy.

Animal Hoarding in Arizona

Animal Hoarding: A Phenomenon Affecting the Welfare of Animals and Our Communities

In cities across this country, police and health officials discover thousands of animals of all types ranging from dogs, to cats, birds, goats, and even pigs, imprisoned in the homes of animal hoarders.  Victims of animal hoarding suffer from disease, neglect, malnutrition, and starvation at the hands of their owners.  Animal hoarding is a form of animal cruelty that affects not only the safety and well-being of animals but public safety as well.

A Definition of Animal Hoarding

Animal hoarding is a phenomenon that has only recently received public and media attention.  In previous years, animal hoarders may have gone completely unnoticed and undiagnosed.  By understanding the definition of animal hoarding, communities and concerned citizens will become better equipped to stop or prevent instances from occurring.  A recent article entitled “Quick Summary of Animal Hoarding” written by Victoria Hayes on http://animallaw.info , defined animal hoarding as a large number of animals acquired by an individual, which has become overwhelming to that individual to the degree that the animals are not receiving the most basic requirements for their health and safety.  Furthermore, the individual is unable or unwilling to recognize that the living conditions of the effected animals and surrounding humans is unacceptable by any standards.

 The Cause for Animal Hoarding

Senseless acts of negligence upon hundreds of innocent animals begs the question, “Why do they do it?”   Until recently, many people thought that individuals with large accumulations of animals were simply “animal lovers.”  However, experts agree that animal hoarding is a form or symptom of mental illness that must be addressed by psychological treatment.

The Consequences of Animal Hoarding

Without treatment, animal hoarders have a tendency to continue with their compulsive behavior regardless of the consequences that they face.  In many cases, they are alienated by their friends, family, and communities.  Furthermore, animal hoarders may face multiple encounters with the law which may result in the loss of their homes or animals, and may involve misdemeanor or felony charges.  Generally, animal hoarding charges will be prosecuted according to state animal cruelty laws.  In most states animal hoarding is a misdemeanor offense.  However, some states consider it to be a felony offense, which may result in jail time.

The animals are the innocent victims who truly suffer the consequences of this horrific act.  In many cases, they endure starvation, neglect, disease, and must live in unsanitary environments.  In some severe instances, they are forced to live among and even feed on the deceased animals around them.  Their fates are grim unless they are found and rescued by caring individuals in the community.

Animal hoarders also affect the lives of humans living among them and in their community.  In many cases of animal hoarding, children may be forced to live under the same roof and endure the same unsanitary conditions.  They may be exposed to diseases carried by the animals kept at the residence.  Neighboring residences may also suffer from exposure to diseases, sanitation problems, and unwelcome sounds and smells due to nearby animal hoarders.

Raising Awareness

In an effort to raise awareness of this very serious form of animal cruelty, the state of Hawaii actually passed a law against animal hoarding.  Proponents of the law argued that it would help to increase understanding among the general population, of the gravity of the offense.  Those opposed to the law simply felt it was redundant, as animal hoarding is currently prosecuted under state animal cruelty laws.  Similar laws have been proposed in other states, such as Montana, and New Mexico, but were not passed into law.Concerned citizens can help to raise awareness in their communities by reporting cases of animal hoarding to local authorities, speaking out in their communities against animal cruelty, and participating in local groups and organizations that fight against these senseless acts.

Homeless Animals Rescue Team needs Donations

Dear Friends,

Our team has been hitting it hard with TNR one to two times a week, and really hoping to see fewer kittens this spring… at least at a few of the trailer parks and motels we’re working on.  The biggest problem we have run into is having the funds to get as many cats spayed and neutered as possible, and of course, also the time and “man power” to do it all.  We had a garage sale this month which raised $275.00, and we were very fortunate to get a grant for one very large trailer park in Tempe.

There is a huge need for TNR at the Colonnade Motel in east Mesa, and Country Club Village Mobile Home Park.  Both of these are on a “wait list” because there are no funds available for them.  It is pathetic to see the many kittens scavenging for food and sickly due to intestinal parasites and lack of nutrition.  We hope to end the breeding cycle for these cats and help them to have better lives.  If you would like to donate for TNR, you can send your tax deductible donations made out to H.A.R.T., to our P.O. Box below.  Please forward this email to anyone you know who might like to support TNR, or even help with trapping and transport.  We are always accepting cat food donations too, and can arrange to pick up on the weekends.

As always, thank you for any support you can offer or for forwarding to others who might be in a position to help the cats.  Last spring we received donations from two people whose employers have a program of corporate matching for charities and non-profit groups.  What an awesome idea!  That was a huge help and greatly appreciated!

Pet Sitter goes above and beyond for client

It is rare to encounter a professional who cares this much about other people’s pets. Kara went out of her way to accommodate my needs (I had to leave town on short notice but one of my dogs got sick yet we could not figure out what is was, and we were still waiting on blood test results) I called Kara at the end of the business day she was able to provide me with a sitter within a few hours. She clearly has experience and training working with dogs – she offered insight on what my dog’s medical condition may be as well as which meds and care would probably follow…details that I told my vet….Kara was right! It was Valley Fever. Rachel, the petsitter was wonderful! My 2 dogs took to her immediately. She kept me updated daily on my dog’s health progress via text messages and administered meds accordingly; she even drove to my vet’s office to consult and pick up additional meds. I will definitely be referring Kara’s and Rachel’s professionalism to friends family, my vet, and I will write a review on Yelp.

Springerpaw Ranch is closing their doors

Sadly, the rescue group, Springerpaw Ranch is closing their doors (due to the owners moving out of state) so they are in desparate need to find homes for several homeless pups that they have rescued off the e-list.

Deb has worked tirelessly to walk the County shelters, taking photos of animals looking for homes, and emailing out photos, giving hundreds of pups visability which has lead to them finding their ‘forever home’.  Deb’s efforts over the years has really made an impact and she will be missed.

Please send this email to any/all friends and family…so we can help these sweet dogs find their forever home.

The best part is that since these animals have been living with Deb and her husband at the ranch, they will have info on the pups personality and needs.

Thanks for pass this along..you would be surprised how reaching out to your circles helps us find homes for hundreds of aniamls in the Valley!

Angies list Review

Pet sitting for a 5 cat household, coming twice a day over a two week time period this summer.
Member Comments:
Our former pet sitter having retired from the business, we were forced to select a new provider to take care of our 5 sometimes spoiled and always finicky cats during our summer vacation. This is no easy task, as they have very different personalities, there are serious rivalries among three of them, and two are relatively new to us and shy. In addition, two of the older ones are tightly bonded with one family member and one of the new ones views another family member as his personal property and port in a storm. Three will snap if you touch them wrong. All can pine if their humans are away too long. A challenge for anyone coming in new!We couldn’t have been happier with the service provided, nor with our personal sitter, Brittany. TLC’s office personnel were professional yet friendly. The policies were clear and there were no unexpected costs. And Brittany was wonderful! She kept a log of when she was there, what she did, and how the cats reacted – who wanted extra love, who she played with, who didn’t show up for dinner, who was (or wasn’t) aggressive with whom. She was very responsive to text messages and followed up immediately. For example, when I expressed particular concerns about how the battling pairs were doing, she sent me a cell phone picture of the two of them curled up on the kitchen table next to each other. She also brought in the mail, cleaned cat boxes daily, and kept the pool filled. She handled packages that were delivered to the house, and generally kept her eye on things to make sure the house was running OK (e.g., we problem-solved by text message a potential issue with the AC). And she coordinated with our house cleaner (and friend) to make sure any cat or house-related problems were covered.Ultimately, of course, one hires a pet sitter for the pets. And I can say with some confidence that our cats loved having Brittany around, and overall felt very comfortable with her. There was still one of the new shy ones that she never did see, but she rightly believes it only make things worse to hunt down a hiding cat. Instead, she instituted a creative way of monitoring that kitten’s dish to make sure that she was eating. The other new one showed up regularly and actually put on some weight. We were concerned that one of our older cats was eating too fast and had been throwing up. After observing his behavior, Brittany worked out a way of feeding him so that he did not throw up at all the whole time we were gone. Our house cleaner, who has known the cats since we got them (starting 7 years ago), and who has given honest feedback on past pet sitters, also gave Brittany glowing reviews. In the end, we can definitely say we felt very good about TLC. Their rates were reasonable, their policies clear, and their employees quite professional. We will definitely use them again!

TLC House & Pet Sitting Review

Kara and the TLC team has been our “go-to” home and pet sitter for several years now and we are so pleased to have them take such good care of the cats we affectionately call “The Monsters”.

TLC takes the worry out of traveling. Out sitter is in regular text contact with us as well as leaving detailed notes during visits. We don’t have to stop the mail or paper either.

Cats are not “tail waggers” in the traditional sense but we know they are happy when TLC takes care of them.

Before you travel, give TLC a call, your pets will love you for it!

Mesa Pet Sitter took care of special needs cat

Both our cats, are our children and one of them is a “special needs”. We’ve always had friends come over and take care of them, but we did nothing but worry all the time, because no one can take care of them like we do. Well, then we met Dawn…she is fantastic! Dawn always leaves us notes on her time with them and they are quite entertaining to say the least! We don’t worry one bit when she is with them and they just LOVE LOVE LOVE her! They actually look forward to us taking out our suitcases, because they know they are going to be spoiled while we are away! She spends lots of time playing & snuggling with them and of course spoils them rotten! When we get home, they are always excited to tell us all about their time with Aunty Dawn and how well they behaved!!! We can’t thank Dawn enough; for all that she does for & with them!

Mesa Pet Sitter went out of her way to make sure client was up to date.

I, and my 3 kitties, LOVE TLC House and Pet Sitting Services. We have used them many times and each time, I come home to 3 happy and content and healthy kitties. They have never shown any signs of loneliness or discontent. They LOVE their sitters. I just came back from almost a 2 month period of being away (due to a family emergency) and my kitties met me at the door and were just as friendly and sweet as before…and that’s because Amanda did such an AWESOME job caring for them. I am so grateful that she took such a special interest in my little girlie girls. And she wrote little notes every time she came over…describing how the girls were doing and how she really needed 3 arms/hands because they all wanted to be petted at the same time. That was a real chuckle. She gave them lots of love…and it really shows. I don’t know what we would have done without Amanda’s help. She even kept me updated by email. And even Kara kept in touch with me by email. That is excemplary service!!! I will use them always. Thank you Amanda and Kara for all of your help!,

Kara and her crew are awesome. It is such a comfort to know that if I need to work late, I can call TLC and they will come and check on my pets, take them for walks etc. Thanks TLC! Holly C, 2011  Pet Sitter Cinnamon and Rachel

Gilbert Pet Sitter

I have never had the need to use a pet setting service  in the past, so I have nothing to compare my experience to, but what I can say
is that I feel really blessed to have called TLC when our need for this service did arise. We have used TLC twice now. The Ist trip was back to Louisiana for 2 wks and I was a bit leary of leaving my home and all of our pets in the hands of strangers. I use the word strangers because even though TLC was listed with the BBB as a reliable Pet sitting service, they were still strangers to us. We
talked to Holly or Kara everyday of our trip, if we didn’t call them, they called us, just to keep us posted on all, and their caring voices and concern for our pets, helped put our minds at ease while we were away. On our return we found all to have been taken care of with great care & love. We left 7 dogs, two aquariums(150 gal & 30 gal), 3 bearded dragons, 2 veiled chameleons and 1 ferret in their hands to be cared for. Quiet a handful, huh!! So, when we decided to go to Prescott for the rodeo this past week, we didn’t hesitate in calling TLC. We were gone 5 days this trip and they were great, going above & beyond, when our water was cut off due to and oversight on my part, Holly brought containers of water from her home to make sure our pets had water. Thanks again Holly for all your extra effort with no complaint!! On our return all was perfect, our home and our pets were all taken care of with sincere care and professionalism!! Thanks again to Kara and Holly for all you do for us while we are away from home for you give us peace of mind, knowing that ours is in good hands with you and we sure don’t consider you strangers anymore!!! Thanks
again, Beverly H, 2009
